What Kathy Hochul’s Days at the Erie County Clerk’s Office Tell Us About Her Leadership | Buffalo Politics News

Hochul was appointed, and later elected, as Clerk to complete Swarts’ unexpired term in 2007. She was re-elected in 2010 but stepped down in May 2011 after being elected to the House of Representatives for the 26th District of Congress.

Tonawanda City Democratic President John Crangle, who served as Hochul County Deputy Clerk, said she has an unmatched work ethic and has gone above and beyond to improve the customer service experience in DMV county offices. She has also worked hard to modernize and improve the use of technology in the office, he said.

“She took care of everything,” he said.

She spoke to residents queuing at auto offices and worked to improve staff culture so customers have a more positive experience, Crangle and Hochul spokesperson Matthew Janiszewski said.

She had televisions, comfortable chairs for adults, and a rug for children brought to the waiting rooms, Janiszewski said. She made sure that DMV customers were greeted by someone when entering for the first time and given a document checklist so they didn’t wait long, only to be told at the window that ‘they did not have the necessary documents to carry out their transactions. .

Hochul had customer satisfaction forms handed out to every visitor to the auto bureau and personally called people who had a bad experience, giving them his cell phone number, he said. It extended the mobile services of the automobile bureau. And taking inspiration from doctors’ offices, she even brought magazines from her home to hand out in waiting rooms.
