NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 2-ranked Florida State softball team (24-1) defeated Lipscomb (8-15) 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
A three-run first inning led the Seminoles to a 5-3 win over the Bison. The three runs came with two outs as Devyn Flaherty picked left field to score Michaela Edenfield and Mack Leonard, who both reached a fielder’s pick. Jahni Kerr then scored two pitches later to score Flaherty.
Florida State widened the lead to 4-0 after the second inning. Bethaney Keen walked to start the inning, then Brooke Blankenship reached for a defender’s pick. Sherrill stepped up and doubled to left field on the first pitch of his at-bat, scoring Blankenship. It was 68and Sherrill’s career double, extending his ACC and Florida State record.
Lipscomb brought the score to within one with three single-handed runs late in the third inning. A pair of Bison singles and a wild pitch scored their first point of the game. Kamrie Rich then hit his third home run of the season to make it 4-3.
Florida State fought back in the top of the fourth with the last run of the game. Hallie Wacaser hit her first career home run to left center field to start the inning, making it 5-3.
Brianna Enter started the game and pitched three innings with four strikeouts while allowing three runs. Mack Leonard came on as a relief in the fourth inning and earned his second victory of the season. She pitched the last four innings of the game and allowed only one hit.
Florida State travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama tomorrow to take on the Crimson Tide at 7 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
