BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech Panthers women’s soccer team advance to the Sunshine State Conference semifinals after beating Nova Southeastern 1-0 on Monday.

It didn’t take long for Florida Tech to strike first as Marem Ndiongue recovered a cross from Mayara Queiroz Reis in the box and scored on a blind shot over his head that sank to the back of the net. to put the Panthers in place 1-0 in the 10th minute.

The Panthers controlled the momentum for the remainder of the first half as they outscored the Sharks 10-3.

NSU pulled full blast in the second half, holding the ball over the Panthers’ defensive half for most of the final 45 minutes. The Sharks had an 8-1 advantage in shots in the second half and a 4-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Despite the Shark’s offensive efforts, Maria Sanchez Recuero and the Panthers defense fended off every attempt. Sanchez Recuero finished with seven saves in the game, including several acrobatic saves on shots right in front of the net to keep the Panthers in the lead.

Queiroz Reis led Tech with six shots in the match with two on goal, while Ndiongue placed two of his four shots on goal, including the eventual winner of the match.

Florida Tech won its first SSC tournament victory since 2017, when the Panthers beat Tampa on penalties (4-2) in the SSC Championship game.
