Community leader Flank says she will run for Las Vegas city council

A community leader is the last person to declare their intention to run for the Las Vegas City Council seat in Ward 4.
Brenda Flank, executive director of the Alliance for Education and Freedom, a local non-profit organization focused on teaching constitutional studies, announced Thursday that she would seek to represent voters in the Northwest District .
âOur needs have been ignored by career politicians looking for their next election,â Flank said in a statement. âI am not a politician and I think it is an honor to be elected to represent the people of our community.
Flank, 64, has pledged to focus on public health and safety concerns and job creation as the city tries to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her campaign website, which promises it will bring “fresh ideas and a bold new perspective” to city hall, says she wants to streamline business licensing for entrepreneurs; create business and community development centers; and ensure that police, firefighters and medical personnel have the resources to do their jobs.
Flank is a founding member of the Founders Classical Academy of Las Vegas, a public charter school and has served on various boards, including the Las Vegas chapter of the NAACP, according to his campaign.
She holds a master’s degree in business administration from the National University, according to her campaign.
Flank, a longtime Las Vegas resident, also appears to have gotten the support of Rick Harrison, host of the Pawn Stars TV series.
âLas Vegas City Council needs a leader we can count on and who is firmly committed to doing the right thing,â Harrison said in a statement. “I trust Brenda Flank, and so do you.”
Flank follows at least three others in the contest to replace limited-term city councilor Stavros Anthony. Former MP Francis Allen-Palenske, former city councilor Bob Beers and former Las Vegas police captain Robert Plummer have each said in recent weeks that they plan to run.
The period for submitting applications for non-judicial races in 2022 begins on March 7. The primary election is June 14.
